True to the title, here are a few essential oil blends that help with stress, anxiety, anger, irritability, sadness and other low moods. You can diffuse these at the start or end of the day. For diffusers with the standard capacity, 100ml, use 4-5 drops of essential oils. For 200ml water capacity, you may use 6-9 drops.
Amyris + Jasmine + Tangerine
Amyris’s woody and vanilla-like scent is naturally de-stressing. Jasmine offers a tension free atmosphere with its exotic and exquisite floral scent. Tangerine has a refreshing citrusy scent that addresses anxiety, fatigue, mental burnout along with other unfavorable moods, leaving the senses rejuvenated.
- 100ml water
- 2 drops amyris/jasmine
- 2 drops tangerine
- 200ml water
- 2 drops amyris
- 2 drops jasmine
- 4 drops tangerine
*If you don’t have amyris, you can use sandalwood. If you don’t like woody scents, try spearmint in place of amyris or sandalwood instead!
Peru Balsam + Sweet Orange
Peru balsam has a higher risk of being a skin irritant, so let’s enjoy that beautiful vanilla-like aroma in a diffuser blend instead. There’s something very emotionally comforting about sweet smelling oils such as peru balsam and sweet orange, this sweet blend also doubles as a great sleeping aid and for sweet dreams.
- 100ml water
- 2 drops peru balsam
- 2 drops sweet orange
- 200ml water
- 4 drops peru balsam
- 2 drops sweet orange
- 2 drops yuzu
*You can use yuzu as a substitute for orange or combine it as shown in the 200ml option.
Vanilla + Cinnamon + Nutmeg
Sweets and desserts make people happy and truth to be told, many of these delicious guilty pleasures contains vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg. All three oils will not only bring warmth to your home but to your heart as well. You can also expect other benefits such as helping with nausea, insomnia and nervous tension.
- 100ml water
- 2 drops vanilla
- 2 drops cinnamon
- 200ml water
- 3 drops vanilla
- 3 drops cinnamon
- 3 drops nutmeg
*Instead of nutmeg, you can also use coffee! You can also do a combination of just vanilla and coffee but at lower concentrations as they both have strong scents.
Cedarwood + Pine + Lemon
Cedarwood has the ability to quiet down mental chaos for a clearer mind and sharper focus. Its sweet and woody aroma pairs harmoniously with the crisp and forest-like scent of pine, which helps revitalize the senses for a boost in energy and alertness. Lemon’s clean and vibrant aroma eliminates airborne bacteria and uplifts your mood.
- 100ml water
- 2 drops vanilla
- 2 drops cinnamon
- 200ml water
- 2 drops cedarwood
- 2 drops pine
- 4 drops lemon
*If you don’t have cedarwood, you can use sandalwood instead. As for pine, a good substitute would be fir (fir needle or silver fir) as they are from the same plant family.
Bergamot + Lime + Grapefruit
Nothing says happy like a citrus burst. The lovely yet not overpowering aroma of citrus oils are effective mood enhancers and can also help with nausea, respiratory health and your immune system. Did I mention their anti-bacterial activity also makes it a good room spray and surface cleaner?
- 100ml water
- 2 drops bergamot/lime
- 2 drops grapefruit
- 200ml water
- 2 drops bergamot
- 2 drops lime
- 2 drops grapefruit
- 2 drops mandarin
*You can also add mandarin to the mix or use it as a substitute for grapefruit.
Diffuse these blends for 30 minutes. Diffuse them at the start of your day to set the mood and give you the extra boost to power through the day.
