Essential Oil Recipes for Meditation

Here are a few essential oil blends to assist in creating that ideal environment for meditating and focusing. Be ready to feel centered, grounded and at peace. For diffusers with the standard capacity, 100ml, use 4-5 drops of essential oils. For 200ml water capacity, you may use 6-9 drops.

Vetiver + Frankincense + Cedarwood

Vetiver is widely used in Ayurveda for spiritual practices as well as remedies for multiple ailments. The warm and smoky scent is beneficial for individuals who have difficulties with memory recollection and concentrating. Frankincense has a long history of being used for sacred and religious rituals. Its spicy and earthy scent is believed to strengthen spiritual connection. Cedarwood’s sweet and balsamic scent is calming to the mind and the body, clearing the mind and alleviating tension for a peaceful and effective meditating session.

100ml water

  • 2 drops vetiver/frankincense
  • 2 drops cedarwood

200ml water

  • 3 drops vetiver
  • 3 drops frankincense
  • 2 drops cedarwood

*You can use sandalwood in place of vetiver or omit it completely

Clary Sage + Sage + Geranium

Clary sage is well known for its ability to heighten concentration for meditation, prayers and spiritual practices. Sage has a sweet and herbaceous scent that is emotionally balancing, allowing one to feel centred and focused. Geranium creates an uplifting environment, diminishing fatigue and stress.

100ml water

  • 2 drops clary sage/sage
  • 2 drops geranium

200ml water

  • 3 drops clary sage
  • 3 drops sage
  • 3 drops geranium

*You can use frankincense in place of clary sage

Siberian Fir + Pink Pepper + Lemon

Siberian fir has a refreshing and balsamic scent that promotes relaxation, wonderful for helping you unwind after a long day. A tiny bit of pink pepper goes a long way. Its crisp peppery scent is useful for promoting alertness. Lemon revitalizes the senses and elevates your mood, alleviating negativity and sluggishness.

100ml water

  • 2 drops Siberian fir/pink pepper
  • 3 drops lemon

200ml water

  • 2 drops Siberian fir
  • 2 drops pink pepper
  • 4 drops lemon

*You can use black pepper in place of pink pepper or omit it completely

Sandalwood + Lavender + Bergamot

The deep and warm scent of sandalwood is known to be emotionally grounding, allowing the mind to quiet down and promoting a sense of serenity. Lavender is a natural relaxant, effectively inducing calmness to reduce and manage emotional distress. The uplifting effects of bergamot have a positive influence on lethargy, allowing one to feel renewed and rejuvenated.

100ml water

  • 2 drops sandalwood
  • 2 drops lavender/bergamot

200ml water

  • 3 drops sandalwood
  • 3 drops lavender
  • 3 drops bergamot

*You can use vetiver/cedarwood in place of sandalwood
*You can also use other citrus oils in place of bergamot

Ylang Ylang + Patchouli

The heady and floral scent of ylang ylang uplifts and stabilises one’s mood, inducing relaxation and addressing fatigue, stress and irritability. Not only does patchouli help with boosting concentration during meditation and spiritual practices, it also deodorises the air by eliminating harmful bacteria, preventing infections and keeping your health in check.

100ml water

  • 2 drops ylang ylang
  • 2 drops patchouli

200ml water

  • 2 drops ylang ylang
  • 3 drops patchouli
  • 3 drops tangerine

*You can use jasmine/neroli in place of ylang ylang
*You can also use other citrus oils in place of tangerine

Diffuse these blends for 30 minutes. Due to their calming properties, it is better to diffuse them at night time instead. It may even help with the onset of sleep. Don’t forget to practice with care. Consult a health care or medical professional if you are pregnant, nursing, or have a medical condition.
