Autumn Essential Oil Blends

Summer is ending, fall is beginning. Autumn is often associated with the falling leaves, shorter daytime and cooler temperature. It is a wonderful time to enjoy drinks that were too hot during the summer such as cocoa, cider, everything pumpkin spice. Not to mention chic autumn fashion such as trendy coats and high boots. Here are some essential oil blends for you to try out in your diffuser during autumn.

For diffusers with the standard capacity, 100ml, use 4-5 drops of essential oils. For 200ml water capacity, you may use 6-8 drops.

All Spice + Ginger + Lemon/Orange + Patchouli

If you love pumpkin pie or pumpkin spice latte, this is the blend for you. Pumpkin spice is typically made from combining cinnamon, ground ginger, nutmeg and cloves and/or all spice! To add more spice and earthiness, you can incorporate patchouli into the combination. For a fruitier and more refreshing twist, use lemon and/or orange instead.

Juniper Berry + Peppermint/Spearmint + Lavender + Lime

If you love gin and tonic, you may like this blend as juniper berry is the key ingredient that gives gin that distinctive taste. It may not be a carbon copy of gin and tonic scent or flavor; this invigorating blend will stimulate your senses and boost your immune system at the same time, which is perfect if you get seasonal colds. The woody, earthy and balsamic aroma with pine nuances paired alongside the fresh and piercing peppermint (opt for spearmint if you prefer lighter mint smell) and soothing lavender, optionally topped lime for extra rejuvenation.

If you’re someone prone to seasonal colds, coughs or allergies, especially during the colder seasons, this blend containing powerhouse antioxidants is for you. The oils mentioned have beneficial properties that combat seasonal threats, stale or stuffy environments and poor immunity. At the same time, it provides respiratory support to facilitate easier breathing, clear the mind for better focus and alleviate negative moods. Furthermore, it smells incredibly pleasant and refreshing. You get the desired warmth from tea tree and marjoram, the fresh invigorating notes from eucalyptus and rosemary.

Although these are recipes for your diffuser, you can actually incorporate them differently. For example, the combination of sandalwood + geranium + bergamot makes it ideal to be used as natural fragrance (properly diluted with carrier oil) as all three essential oils are popular ingredients in fragrance. Whereas tea tree + eucalyptus can be added to a hot bath with Epsom salt for a pain relief and anti-septic, or into a hot bowl of water for facial steam to clear congestion and help in expelling stubborn phlegm.

It is time to bring out those flannel shirts and enjoy the warmer drinks.
